Part-Time Operations & Engagement Manager

Status: OPEN
Application deadline: October 15, 2026

Independent Contractor | Part-time | Approx. 10–12 hours/week | $20,000–$25,000 annual compensation | Hybrid – NYC-based, with regular required travel to concert venues across the five boroughs

About the Role
5BMF seeks motivated, self-directed, and highly organized candidates for a new part-time Operations & Engagement Manager role, starting in October 2026. Reporting directly to 5BMF General and Artistic Director Leah Hollingsworth, the Operations & Engagement Manager will support 5BMF across three essential areas: concert operations and audience experience; audience engagement and communications; and internal administrative systems.

Primary Responsibilities
Concert Operations & Audience Experience

  • Attend 5BMF mainstage concerts (approximately 10-12 events per season).
  • Coordinate front-of-house (FOH) and box office needs for all events, including advance ticketing, door sales, volunteer supervision, and other event-day needs.
  • Edit, prepare, and produce printed concert materials, including programs, signage, and other day-of materials.
  • Provide direct audience-facing support and service, fostering a welcoming, consistent experience across our many performance locations, neighborhoods, and partner venues.

Audience Engagement & Communications

  • Maintain and develop 5BMF’s digital content library, including editing image, audio, and video content for streaming and social media; organizing and uploading new content to 5BMF’s YouTube channel; and organizing and cleaning up digital archives.
  • Create supplemental social media and digital content as directed or needed, complementing the work of 5BMF's marketing firm.
  • Identify and pursue local marketing and outreach opportunities – including flyer distribution and connections with neighborhood institutions, schools, community groups, and other local organizations – to help reach new audiences and attract first-time attendees.
  • Create and send email campaigns using 5BMF’s existing email marketing platform, including event announcements, audience updates, and other communications, while helping cultivate and retain returning audiences.

Internal Administrative Systems

  • Manage 5BMF’s CRM and audience/donor records.
  • Manage post-concert surveys to help us better understand who we’re reaching and how.
  • Track and organize audience, attendance, and engagement data to support planning and evaluation.
  • Strengthen administrative systems and workflows that support organizational continuity.

Who We're Looking For

  • Highly organized, self-directed, and dependable. Able to manage multiple responsibilities independently, prioritize competing needs, follow through on details, and keep others informed about progress, questions, and deadlines.
  • Sound judgment and discretion. This role involves handling donor records, audience data, financial details, and other confidential information, and requires a high level of care and responsibility in managing sensitive information.
  • A clear and proactive communicator. Comfortable communicating with colleagues, artists, volunteers, venue partners, community organizations, and audiences, and able to ask questions or flag issues when needed.
  • Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, audience-friendly communications across email, social media, and printed materials.
  • Comfortable with digital tools and systems, including email marketing platforms, CRM/database systems, social media, Google Workspace, and basic image, audio, or video editing tools.
  • Experience with arts, cultural, nonprofit, or community-based organizations is helpful, but not required.
  • Enthusiasm for 5BMF’s mission: A genuine interest in chamber music and excitement about 5BMF’s mission to connect NYC communities with high-quality live music programming.

About 5BMF

Since 2007, Five Boroughs Music Festival has presented more than 150 outstanding chamber music concerts across more than 75 venues in every borough of New York City, in partnership with local cultural organizations, historic landmarks, libraries, and community spaces. We've commissioned nearly 75 composers, presented over 650 performers and ensembles, and have been recognized by the New York Times, the New Yorker, and WQXR for bringing extraordinary, affordable chamber music to communities often overlooked by the city’s major concert institutions. In our 2026-27 season, we are celebrating our 20th anniversary.

A Note from Our General & Artistic Director

5BMF does not operate from a single concert hall. Every performance we present means coordinating with a different partner organization, a different venue, a different neighborhood, and a different audience. That's the nature of bringing incredible chamber music to every corner of New York City — and it's also why, as we enter our third decade, we are looking for an Operations and Engagement Manager to help us advance our mission to reach New Yorkers across the city.

We are looking for someone with an enthusiastic appreciation for the arts who can balance concert logistics, audience relationships, and our internal systems all at once; someone who is responsible, reliable, and takes the trust placed in them seriously. If you're organized, discreet, and comfortable working independently, and excited by the idea of helping a 20-year-old organization build the infrastructure for its next 20 years, then we would love to hear from you.

How to Apply

Please submit a résumé and brief cover letter describing your interest in 5BMF and this position, and highlighting relevant experience that demonstrates your ability to work independently, manage multiple responsibilities, and communicate effectively. Please email materials to Leah Hollingsworth at leah [at] 5bmf.org by October 15, 2026.
